     Kalman Pertzelai was born circa 1851 Ukraine, Russia.2 He was the son of Hershur Pertzelai and Mindyai (?)1
     He was an itenerant peddler or a grain merchant while living in Russia..3

     Kalman Pertzelai married Edis Rosenzweig.1
     Kalman Pertzelai and Edis Rosenzweig immigrated to New York on 5 July 1909. "Ralinen Parcelaj" age 58, from Prokurow, Russia, arrived on the Nieuw Amsterdam from Rotterdam with his wife, "Ides" age 59, and two children, "Scheindel" age 15 and "Freide" age 13.(I think these were Jennie and Fanny). They were going to a son, Machel Parcelay at 116-15 E 105th Street, New York. Kalman listed that he had 4 sons and 2 daughters in the U.S. According to Laura Persily, Fannie told the story that they arrived on July 4th and couldn't land. Nobody on the ship could understand why, and then they began to hear frightening explosions. The next day, when they docked, they were told about the celebrations. Note - Kalman does not have a child named Machel. I am not sure who this person is.1,4,5
     In 1911 his name was legally changed to Persily.
     In 1911, Kalman and Edith lived at 532 East 11th Street, New York, New York.1

     Kalman Persily died circa 1911 in a tragic accident when he was killed by an ambulance, while crossing Second Avenue in NYC. According to Ida Persily, this was because he was hard of hearing..1,6 He was buried Staten Island, New York.6
     According to an e-mail from Clancy Sigal, a daughter was left in Russia. She had married a shoemaker and her parents regarded her as losing status.7
