Her obituary appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, July 2-5, 2011: Ida Persily 9/4/1916-7/1/2011 Ida was a marvelous woman - quick witted, curious, always ready to laugh, proud of being a Jewish woman from the Bronx, and fiercely independent - She lived for new adventures. She graduated from Hunters College, New York during the depression, with a degree in mathematics and took a few small jobs before starting her first career with the OSS which later morphed into the CIA. What she loved most about her job was the opportunity to travel first class to different areas of the world to train staff at the CIA stations. On a visit to California, when she was 45, Ida decided to stay a little longer. As it turned out California was where she was to spend the next 49 years, finally settling in San Francisco, but always assuming she would move back east. Her second career was as an administrator for the San Francisco Department of Social Services supervising staff serving seniors. Ida enjoyed men, but wanted a life free of commitment. When asked, she would confess to rejecting 5 marriage proposals. Finally, at age 90, she confided to her cousin that she was ready to get married, because she was feeling lonely at night. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Ida ensured she would get back to New York by pre-arranging for a private burial in Staten Island.3
